[edit] Critical Reaction

Critical reception was mostly positive. Kirkus Reviews said "The author ably delineates the power of the forest and its creatures and explores the difficulty of how to know another."[1] School Library Journal's Melissa Moore was critical of the "uneven plot."[2] Jennifer Mattson of Booklist noted "The tale's perspective from that of a marriageable prince, not the more usual damsel's view, makes this stand out from other novels set in a folklore-influenced framework."[3]
